3 women: 3 stories
BETH YW’R HAF I MI? (WHAT IS SUMMER TO ME?) “AUGUST 1, 11.00 A.M. First day of the Eisteddfod. And us flouting a twenty five year tradition. Woe and woe again. And no Eisteddfod on the telly-box! Thank heavens and hallelujah.”
CORNEL AUR (THE GOLD CORNER) “I sit dozing in my chair, musing on important matters such as remembering and forgetting. Things that insist on lodging in your memory, things that are forgotten. Things that creep back in to disturb you to torture you at the dead of night and the early hours of the morning, confusing you...”
UNDER THE STAIRWELL “Sorry, I’m not apologisin’ for my language. Take it or leave it, this is how I fucking talk. And you’ve asked for an “interview” – what’s that in Welsh? Ay, that’s it - cyf-wel-iad. So let’s get on with it.”
Theatr Pena’s theatrical interpretation of these three stories, by one of Wales’s most eminent authors, attracted a large audience and critical acclaim when it was first performed in Theatr Fach y Maes at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, Ebbw Vale on 6th of August 2010.
Giving flesh and blood to these three women and their stories, the three actresses were praised by the author and audiences alike for the strength and emotional intensity of their performances.
